His youth was steeped in the history and culture of his heritage. He graduated from Texas Tech School of Medicine, and has worked as a pediatrician in rural Plainview, Texas since 1984. He is married with two married children. He spends his free time running their panhandle ranch, raising horses and hunting. He enjoys reading and writing historical fiction.

Steve Turner was born a fifth generation Texan, sixth generation Arkansan, and an eighth generation American. His youth was steeped in the history and culture of his heritage. He graduated from Texas Tech School of Medicine, and has worked as a pediatrician in rural Plainview, Texas since 1984. He is married with two married children. He spends his free time running their panhandle ranch, raising horses and hunting. He enjoys reading and writing historical fiction.

A Vivid Connection to the Past

Stephen Turner's obvious love for history shines with this engaging tale of a family's trip from Ireland (1749) aboard The Banshee and the making of a new life in America before the Revolution. The story of the family's struggles and detailed accounts of what life must have been like in unsettled South Carolina is engaging and held my interest. As a writer, I was especially impressed with Dr. Turner's depth of research that includes not only historical references on American and world events, but minute attention to the details of daily life. I was transported back and came away with a renewed appreciation and sense of gratitude for our ancestors' struggles in this new land. Stephen makes no secret that this tale is based on his own family history, but I would have known without being told because of the way he portrays his characters--showing a connection that time cannot erase.

National Evolution Told as a Family's Epic Adventure

This is a wonderful story that merges real life family experience with the larger passionate story of America's evolution. It is apparent that the author put his heart into giving us historical fiction at it's best, writing in a way that enables the reader to feel like he/she is part of the story and always curious to know what the next chapter will bring.
Considerable attention went into historical detail so that a very personal adventure is incorporated into an accurate larger context. Family values and the American experience permeate the many episodes that result in the larger story, and I feel better for having read it. Younger and older readers alike will experience a very comfortable sense of inclusion and optimism, almost as though "we were there".

An outstanding book that affords a wonderful adventure to its readers

If you are looking for a terrific book that offers adventure and action, this book fits the bill perfectly. Dr. Stephen Turner is a gifted author who knows how to create the perfect tale for children. Our family enjoyed this book very much. We look forward to the next book in this series. As a mother of 3 sons, I must acknowledge that this outstanding book provides the opportunity for all children, but especially boys, to travel back in time to a place that fuels the imagination. I feel that this book would be an excellent addition to any school library or any teacher's classroom.
