About the Author
Leland Ryken (PhD, University of Oregon) served as professor of English at Wheaton College for nearly 50 years. He has authored or edited over fifty books, including The Word of God in English and A Complete Handbook of Literary Forms in the Bible. He is a frequent speaker at the Evangelical Theological Society's annual meetings and served as literary stylist for the English Standard Version Bible.

Very helpful

I love digging deep into the details of a work of literature. My study of the Odyssey is no exception. However, this little guide was extremely helpful as I sought to walk a group of 13-16 year old students through the story in a Christian education setting. It highlighted the big ideas in each book/chapter and just enough of the details to guide me as I led the discussions. Thanks Dr. Ryken!

Good but Basic

I teach high school English at a Christian Classical academy. There is nothing new in this little book, but the information is solid and clearly organized and would be a help for a new teacher or a homeschool mom unfamiliar with the basics of Homer. Ryken seems to be coming from a reasonably Reformed tradition.
