A graduate of Texas Tech School of Medicine, he has worked as a pediatrician in rural Plainview, Texas since 1984. He is married with two married children. His other time is spent on their panhandle ranch, raising horses and hunting. His other novels in the Western Quest Series to date are Out of the Wilderness, On the Camino Real and Under Troubled Skies, all from Sunstone Press.

The Turners and Texas History

Now well into middle age and beyond, Aaron Turner and his family continue to make sacrifices for Texas freedom as his ancestor Stephen Turner takes us through the earliest days of the Republic of Texas, through annexation, and the Mexican-American War.
Turner skillfully weaves economic events (the financial panic of 1837) and national events of state, national and world importance through the eyes of the men who risked everything for freedom and through the hearts of those they left behind.
Readers also experience a hunt for wild horses and buffalo and the efficient harvesting of buffalo. We are reminded that even the price of cotton could mean the difference between survival and prosperity.
We feel the terror of death not only on the battlefield, but also through epidemics and the bite of a rabid dog.

another great read

Once again I have found myself engulfed in one of Dr. Turners books. This forth book is harder for a native Texan to read because growing up they don't tell you all of the gorry details of our history. This book puts you there with Aaron and his friends as they fight for their lives on a daily basis surrounded by threat not only by other people but by nature herself. I am glad that Dr. Turner can put books like this one into the hands of readers all over the world so that they can understand the hardships that our ancestors undertook to make this state, the great state that it is today. Once again GREAT JOB DOC!!!!!

This Book is a Must!!!

What an awesome read! This book is just as exciting as those previously written in the series by Turner. My children love these books. They are very entertaining while teaching so many important concepts about history. Our family looks forward to buying and reading any future books written by this author. My highest recommendation goes to this series and author.
