About the Author
Susan DeVries has made a career out of being a wife, mother, and supervising editor of every word Mark has ever written. Over the past twenty-three years, Susan has partnered with Mark in providing premarital counseling and leading marriage retreats and classes for couples. Mark and Susan have three children and live in middle Tennessee.
Bobbie Wolgemuth was a Bible teacher and the author or co-author of several books, including Mom’s Bible: God’s Wisdom for Mothers and the four-book Gold Medallion bestselling series Hymns for a Kid’s Heart with Joni Eareckson Tada. She is also the coauthor of Couples of the Bible with her husband, Robert.

give it every time

This is the book (along with it's counter part for husbands) that I give to every bride and groom when I am the photographer at their weddings! I have had one bride text me ON THE HONEYMOON night that her and her groom were 'fighting' over who got to read it first (this was when the books weren't split!!!)! They have told me a year later, that they loved it! Another couple gave similar "we loved them" feedback. It's a lot of money to buy a bunch of these for the summer busy wedding season but I find it worth it. I'm a photographer for a couple's wedding day but truly pray that each couple has an incredible life-long marriage! We hope this book is a good start. We actually haven't read the book, been married 17 years and am thinking we need to take the time to read them too!

Our Favorite Newlywed Book!

There are so many books recommended for newlyweds, but this was by far our favorite. I heard about it on the radio show Family Life Today a number of years ago, and decided to buy it when we got married. The whole premise of this book is that the first year of marriage is the 'wet cement' year. It is the year you set the stage for the rest of your marriage. The first year, it is easy to mold things how you want them to be. Years later, it takes a jack hammer to reform that 'cement'. So, form it well from the start. It covers communication to sex, family history, and everything in between. I really liked the family history inventory. It forces you to look at the marriages in your families and examine them to understand the weaknesses you may encounter in your own marriage. This book is so practical. I have to say that 8 years later, i'm so glad we paid special attention to that first year. We are blessed with a wonderful marriage. I credit this book, along with our parent's examples of marriage, and God's grace for our success. Just one note of clarification. This book is written for Christians who want to follow God's plan for marriage. If you lived together before marriage for any length of time, you've already set the stage for your relationship, and so this book may not be as useful for you. You can still change things in your relationship, but it will take lots of hard work. Still, nothing is impossible with God, so why not give it a try? Blessings!

This book brings up things I hadn't thought to consider, and I loved it.

This is so much more informative than I thought it was going to be. My fiance purchased the Groom version of this book, but he is not very spiritual. The advice in here pertains to all couples. While there are always examples bringing everything back to the couple's faith, the things that are brought up to discuss with your fiance are really thought provoking, and I had already done a bunch of research on questions and things to ask your fiance before getting married. We've had so many discussions, and this book still brought up we hadn't thought about.
